The soccer team of Kawene Primary School in Senwabarwana is about to get expert help with their preparations of the Danone Nations Cup set to take place in June in Polokwane.
Former Mpumalanga Black Aces Football Club striker Ausborn Famu has established a non-profit organisation focusing on sports development in Senwabarwana and the team will be among those benefitting from it. Famu played in the provincial Danone Nations Cup in 2000 and, together with fellow player George Maluleke, was selected for the national team that went on to compete in the Danone World Finals against seven other countries in France.
Maluleke currently plays for Kaizer Chiefs Football Club. Famu’s performance in the tournament earned him a scholarship to attend the School of Excellence from 2001 until he completed Grade 12.
In 2006 he went to Port Elizabeth and joined Bay United, and in 2008 he played for Mpumalanga Black Aces. Education then became his focus and he studied Information Technology support through Unisa which he completed in 2013.
Famu said he was looking forward to help the school to win the Danone Nations Cup. “They will be competing in the tournament for the first time. I was born in Limpopo and this is my way of giving back to the community and I am looking forward to help the young players to achieve their goals,” Famu said.
