In their bid to avoid relegation Baroka Football Club on Monday signed promising lethal striker Siyabonga Vilane from Uthonganthi Football Club.
Vilane, regarded as one of the most promising and lethal strikers in the country, played a crucial role in ensuring that Uthonganthi stay afloat in the National First Division (NFD) last season.
He leaves the Kwa-Zulu Natal based outfit in the 9th position of the division with 24 points after 18 matches.
The 32-year old goal poacher joins the likes of Thabo Moseki and Ranga Chivaviro who were signed by Baroka from NFD clubs last season.
Richard Mashabane, spokesperson for Baroka Football Club, said Vilane will help the team in their quest of avoiding relegation. “We are not in a good position in the league. We are lacking the striking force and someone like Vilane will help us. He is a good striker, has a good physique and lots of energy. He scored seven goals last season for Uthonganthi and I think he will bring the same energy to our team,” Mashabane said.
Mashabane also confirmed that newly signed Zimbabwean International forward, Rodwell Chinyengetere has received his work permit and is available for selection.
The two-time Zimbabwe Footballer of the Year was signed by the club last year November from FC Platinum.
“We are happy that he is eligible to play. He has been training hard and he has shown glimpses of a quality striker in our friendly matches and I believe he will add value in the team,” added Mashabane.
