In an effort to assist underperforming schools in the district, a political delegation from Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) reached out to 15 schools last Thursday.
Executive Mayor, John Mpe, Speaker, Nakedi Lekganyane, Chief Whip, Calvin Masoga and members of the mayoral committee (MMCs) moved out to the schools on a back-to-school campaign for motivation.
CDM Media Liaison Officer, Moffat Senyatsi said in a media release that the visits were part of the 2019 back to school programme to reach out to schools in need and help them overcome challenges that adversely affected their performance. In Polokwane, Mpe visited Manoshi, Makgoka and Marobathota high schools, while Lekganyane visited Makgongoana High School, Masoga visited Matladi and Kgagatlou high schools in Lepelle Nkumpi, MMC for Infrastructure, Monicca Mohale visisted Makgatho and Seripa high schools while MMC for Corporate Services, Elizabeth Kgatla visited Mmatshipi, Mathabatha and Magaedisha high schools.
According to Senyatsi, the delegation met with school management and interacted briefly with learners. Speaking at Makgoka High School during the visit, Mpe pleaded with learners to make their parents proud and put school work above everything. “And we call on our educators to unsure that they do what they must do in schools and particularly in classrooms”, Mpe is quoted to have said.
“These visits are a sequel to the visits that were made when schools reopened last week where a commitment was made to embark on a matric intervention programme in order to improve their matric performance and congratulate those that have improved,” Senyatsi concluded.
