It is clear that the Police have not let their guard down after the Festive Season as a total of 673 suspects have been arrested on various charges across the province since the beginning of the year.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that 471 of the arrested suspects are illegal migrants who are facing charges of contravention of the Migration Act.
The other suspects were arrested on charges varying from possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen properties, theft, dealing in liquor without a license, murder, public drinking and armed robbery, according to Ngoepe.
Ngoepe reiterated that the joint efforts are conducted through tracing of wanted suspects, roadblocks, stop and search operations, border policing and raiding of illegal businesses and comprise of members of various units and clusters.
During these operations six firearms, 14 rounds of ammunition, four magazines, nine cell phones, four vehicles, liquor, several televisions, two bolt cutters, drugs, copper cables, clothing and groceries were confiscated.
The arrested suspects have already started appearing before various magistrate’s courts in the province, according to Ngoepe.
Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba has commended all members for their hard work and dedication.
