Alan Redfern, previously deputy head of St Andrews College in Grahamstown, has joined Stanford Lake College (SLC) as its new headmaster.
“I have always viewed education as the most valuable gift a parent can give his or her child, I believe in the uniqueness of every child. Education needs to open one’s mind, to create a knowledge of self-awareness and to awaken and expand the spirit to the immeasurable power of being human,” Redfern is reported to have said.
He views his role at SLC as one where, in cooperation with the board and parents and with a thorough understanding of the pressure learners experience, an even stronger educational environment can be fostered for learners to thrive in and emerge as significant young adults in the South African and global context.
Redfern is reportedly a keen sports enthusiast having participated in the Dusi Canoe Marathon and numerous mountain bike stage races.
He has played representative hockey and until recently was convener of the South African u.18 boys hockey selection committee.
He is married to Dionne and they have two children, Megan and David.
