Limited parking space at the Limpopo High Court is hopefully something of the past after Independent Development Trust (IDT) announced that they have completed construction on the parking facility recently and plans on opening it early next month.
The parking facility now offers 434 basement parking bays for officials and visitors.
IDT Senior Communications and Marketing Manager Lesego Mashigo indicated in a press statement that the parkade is designed to accommodate a further expansion for 1 700 m² of office space in future.
“IDT is proud to have reached this milestone and looks forward to presenting the parkade to the client department. Construction of the story facility which lies adjacent to the main court building commenced in March 2016 and expected to be opened for use in December,” according to Mashigo.
He indicated that the contractor is still busy on site with the completion of final outstanding installations and thereafter commissioning of all installed equipment, including security access points, elevators, fire equipment and air conditioning systems.
The Department of Justice appointed IDT as an implementing agent of the construction of the overall project at a total contract amount of just over R700 million for the main building as well as the parkade, according to Mashigo.
The state-of-the-art buiding was officially opened by Minisiter of Justice and Correctional Services Michael Masutha in November 2016, thus claiming its place in history as the first High Court premises to be built in the post apartheid era.
The building hosts 11 civil courts, six criminal courts, 14 holding cells, consultations rooms, pay hall, judges and clerks chambers, a library as well as conference and archive rooms.
