Head coach of Polokwane City Football Club’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) team, Bayano Moloto praised his charges for their gutsy performance against Baroka’s MDC team during their eighth match of the season at Vosloorus Stadium on Sunday.
City started on the back foot conceding a soft goal in the opening minutes of the match after Baroka’s midfielder Kagiso Selemela dribbled past two City defenders to score for the Ga-Mphahlele outfit.
City produced a stellar performance in the second half of the match to win 2-1. Long serving City striker, Puleng Tlolane and former Ubuntu Football Club midfielder, Tshepo Mosiatlhaga scored the winning goals. The victory sees City moving from forth position of the league to second position with 16 points.
Moloto believes his team is on the right track to clinch their maiden MDC title, which is accompanied by a trip to Spain. “We are left with seven matches and we need 21 points from those matches. It is achievable, we have already won tough matches, and we have beaten Sundowns who have won the title in the past. I don’t see any team stopping us now,” Moloto said.
The Seshego-born coach said the trip to Spain is a huge motivation for the players. “Look, it is the dream of any football player to play in Spain. They have seen other players travelling abroad through the MultiChoice Diski programme and they also want to write their names in the history books. Suppose we win the title, this trip will open doors for the players, some might be scouted by other teams in Spain and some might event catch the attention of the national team coach.
It will be an opportunity for them in Spain to mix with football royalty in Madrid and Barcelona and play friendly matches with some of the reserve teams in the Spanish league,” remarked Moloto.
The MultiChoice Diski Challenge is a 16-team development league in partnership with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) which will fast track the development of young players into the PSL league.
