Stabilisation operations conducted by Police across the province from 22 October to 6 November resulted in the arrest of 356 suspects on various charges.
Maphure Manamela of the Provincial Police Media Centre said nine firearms of different calibres and 59 rounds of live ammunition were confiscated during the operations.
The suspects are facing charges of among others possession of dangerous weapons and dagga, murder, attempted murder, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, robbery with aggravated circumstances, shoplifting, driving under the influence of alcohol and contravention of the Migration Act.
She added that 135 of the arrested suspects were issued with fines for contravention of the Liquor Act or Road Traffic Act.
Manamela said Police in Hlogotlou joined forces with Groblersdal Police to trace a suspect found hiding in Alexandra last Wednesday. She said the man had been on the run for several years and can possibly be linked to incidents of rape in Motetema in October 2013 and Senwabarwana in March this year respectively.
Manamela added that a suspect (29) arrested at Tembisa was wanted in connection with a murder at Hlogotlou in September.
Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba expressed gratitude towards members for working around the clock in an effort to stabilise crime in hotspots across the province.
