Following their hard-fought 1-0 feat over Maritzburg United Football Club at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, Polokwane City Football Club believes they can claim the scalps of the mighty Orlando Pirates Football Club during their Premier Soccer League (PSL) at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening.
City is currently on the fourth position with 17 points and would want to win the match and advance further in the league.
Midfielder Edgar Manaka who scored the winning goal against Maritzburg United said the match against Pirates will test their character. “It won’t be an easy match. Orlando Pirates is a big team in the country and the African continent and they are on form. They just beat Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend in the Soweto derby and I am sure they would want to continue winning matches but we are ready for them,” he said.
The club’s chief operations officer, Tincy Tema stressed that that Orlando Pirates will be treated like any other team. “They are a big team and we will give them the respect they deserve. However, we can’t afford to lose focus as we have to win the match. We beat them in the Telkom Knockout last season and drew with them in our home and away matches of the league. We need to maintain that record and we give our all in the match,” Tema said.
He further stated that despite their current form in the league they have not set their eyes on the the PSL title. “Look, you can’t plan to fail but winning the league is not on our minds. We are a small team and we just want to consolidate our position and maintain our status in the league. We will remain humble and give our best in every match,” he concluded.
