Capricorn Quilting’s first Bushveld Sew Away proved so popular last week that it is set to become an annual event.
The sew away took the form of a worskhop last Thursday to Saturday with the project entailing the making of a patchwork handbag with cork. Presenting the workshop was Nicky Selby from Husqvarna Viking South Africa and attendees were unanimous in their praise.
According to Nico Nel, manager of Capricorn Quilting, the workshop was the ideal opportunity for attendees to practise and learn new techniques. “A few of our attendees were very surprised that the cork, which is not a material usually used, fitted in so beautifully and looked so good on a handbag,” he explained.
Linda Oerlemans, one of the attendees, said she found the workshop very relaxing and companionable. “I also really enjoyed the chance to do patchwork and to learn new techniques,” she said.
While Capricorn Quilting is a quilter’s haven, they also cater for knitting, crocheting, embroidery and sewing, and also offer various classes.
Nel invited people to drop in at their store for a browse. “We are so much more than just a quilting store and would love to share our knowledge,” he concluded. To make sure your place at next year’s Bushveld Sew Away is secured, contact Capricorn Quilting on 015 297 2146.
