Baroka Football Club’s massive 2-0 victory against Golden Arrows Football Club during the last 16 match of the Telkom Knockout Cup at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening has given their chief executive officer, Morgan Mammilla with renewed confidence that his team can go all the way and clinch the title in December.
The Ga-Mphahlele based outfit has not, since its establishment, reached the final of any major competition. In 2011 they reached the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup and lost to their nemesis, Black Leopards Football Club who beat them for the final spot of the competition. “We want the title, we believe we can win it. Last season we were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the competition and this season we want to go all the way. The players know the importance of this tournament, they are hungry and ready for the challenge,” Mammilla said.
He also stressed that the competition will give the coach and his technical team an opportunity to rectify some of the errors the team has committed in their past Premier Soccer League matches. “We are not doing well in the league. We lost and drew a lot of matches. The tournament will give the coach an opportunity to try new combinations and also look at those players who are not regulars in the team,” Mammilla concluded.
