The provincial executive of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Nafcoc) in Limpopo should go to its national conference in Durban towards the end of November as a combined body and not as one characterised by factional fighting that has apparently crippled the effectiveness of the body for some years now.
Addressing Nafcoc Limpopo’s Radical Economic Transformation Roadshow at the Nafcoc offices in the city on Tuesday, national president Lawrence Mavundla said the structures represented in Nafcoc Limpopo should be consulted first to enable delegates to carry a mandate to the conference and to ensure that all internal issues be cleared beforehand. “Nafcoc is an apolitical structure and we promote the interests of business. Our clients come from all political affiliations. We, however, have to formulate a position regarding pertinent issues such as expropriation of land and radical economic transformation, among others,” Mavundla said and reckoned that Black South Africans are becoming mere spectators in the economy, especially the informal sector. “Foreigners are taking over our business because they work together,” he added. Mavundla suggested that the administration of small businesses be handed to Nafcoc and that bulk procurement by small businesses should be promoted.
President of Nafcoc’s Industrial Chamber (NIC), Steve Skosana provided an update on developments regarding the division between structures in the province and the loss of about R700 million that was destined for the recognised structures. “No progress has been made with the investigation of alleged fraud and we are going to request the Hawks to assist to recover the money. “Members who joined the parallel structure are welcome to return to our structure. They will be screened and if there are no sub judice matters, they will be welcomed,” he assured. Skosana emphasised that Nafcoc has no individuals as members. “The different structures are our members,” he explained.
Polokwane Observer learnt that during the meeting Nafcoc officials present were interviewed by members of the Police regarding an investigation into allegations of fraud and that further statements were expected to be made with the Police in Sunnyside, Pretoria yesterday. (Wednesday) where a case was registered during May 2017.
Neither Isaac Masekwameng, chairperson of Nafcoc Limpopo nor his deputy Gilbert Mosena, could be reached for comment on Tuesday afternoon.
