Water consumers in high lying areas of the city may experience low pressure or shortages due to a shutdown of the Olifantspoort water plant yesterday (Wednesday).
Pumping resumed around 16:00 and according to Polokwane Municipality’s Communications and Marketing Manager, Matshidiso Mothapo, reservoir levels were critically low early this morning (Thursday). The 50 mega litre reservoir on Krugersburg next to Ster Park was at 5%, while the two 30 mega litre reservoirs were empty. The Potgieter Street reservoir was at 40% and the Seshego reservoir at 8%. Lepelle Northern Water increased pumping from the Olifantspoort and Ebenezer plants to 213 and 163 litres per second, respectively.
Mothapo apologised for any inconvenience caused and appealed to residents that have water, to use this resource sparingly to allow for reservoir levels to be rehabilitated. “No watering of lawns during this period,” Mothapo said and confirmed that water tankers are deployed and will provide water as usual.
