Learners from schools across the province had the opportunity to tell their stories through painting and many other educational activities during the Children Literary Fair held at Polokwane City Library’s activity room and auditorium recently.
Literacy officer Maurdy Dunster, said the gathering was part of the seventh annual Polokwane Literary Fair and emphasised that the aim was to give children a platform to tell their stories. She further outlined that learners from more than 10 schools, both primary and secondary schools participated in educational activities such as spelling bee, book talk show, creative writing workshop and telling our story through painting.
According to Dunster, these activities teach learners to be creative and also encourage them to read. She indicated that learners had to read ‘Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood’ written by famous comedian, Trevor Noah to participate in book talk show as they were requested to write a summary of the book and discuss it with their peers.
Dunster was impressed with the attendance and reiterated that participation is per an invite as they are trying to rotate schools to afford all an opportunity to learn. The Polokwane Literary Fair ran from last Tuesday until Saturday at Polokwane City Library.
