The Andrew Dipela Foundation recently presented Laerskool Eugene N Marais in Mookgophong with rugby kit in honour of Thabang Dipela who died in April last year. Andrew Dipela, his father and founder of the organisation, made the presentation.
Dipela, who is also the Chairperson of Limpopo Tourism Agency, described his last son as an avid sportsman who loved all sport.
“He was only 22 when he died and I loved him so much. He was studying Public Administration at University of Johannesburg. I established the foundation in April this year to honour him,” Dipela said. He stressed that the foundation would be going to more schools in remote areas of the province on a monthly basis to assist with donations of sports kits and other educational items.
He explained that their choice for the specific donation was motivated because Laerskool Eugene N Marais is working very hard to address issues of social cohesion. “The school was also selected because of its non-racial character, particularly the rugby team. We saw it befitting to reward the team and school with a brand new rugby kit because rugby is the sport of our people, it belongs to all South Africans. The school started a great project by uniting kids as a team. When these kids are on the field they don’t see race, rather it is the performance of the team that matters most. Hence we are powering their performance,” Dipela stated.
