The newly established Soetdorings Perdryskool which also offers western games under the name Diamonds in Dust Western Equestrian Club is planning what promises to be a fun opening event for young and old on 13 October.
Owner, Maryka Mong established the riding school, which already has 19 active members, in February followed by the western club in July. “My aim is to offer all elements of training on how to ride a horse as well as competitive participation in western games. All ages are welcome and training includes balancing on the horse to introduction to galloping, rhythmic and participating in the arena,” Mong said.
Regarding the opening day Mong indicated that she plans on hosting an event for amateur as well as professional riders. Besides equestrian-related events and western games to be hosted there will also be a potjie competition, children’s activities, socialising around the barbeque fires and a country evening to conclude the day.
Mong’s love for horses started when she was only five years old and was followed by a competitive career while still at school. After school she knew she wanted to continue with what she loves most. “I started with only one horse. Then a second came and the word spread quickly. Horses are more of a passion than a business.
