Muni’s Literary Fair offers full programme

Polokwane Municipality’s seventh Annual Literary Fair started last Monday and will end on Saturday and offers an interesting line-up for arts and literary lovers. Activities will take place at the city library and the council chamber.
Festival Director, Malose Lekganyane, says that the event is a critical arts initiative championed by the municipality in collaboration with key strategic partners and that it is the only literary festival in Limpopo positioned to transform the current discourse through activities such as the Writers in Conversation.
Lekganyane reckons that in the few years that the festival was staged, it has managed to grow from a modest gathering of literary enthusiasts to a major calendar event within social and academic circles.
“Continued partnership with premium brands such as the South African Book Development Council (custodians of the National Book Week and South African Book Fair) and Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (a joint initiative of the University of Johannesburg and Nanyang Technological University of Singapore) has boosted the profile of this project nationally, courted continental curiosity and ensured important cross-pollination of artistic ideas,” Lekganyane explains.
The programme for today (Thursday) and tomorrow includes a Youth Parliament in the council chamber from 10:00 to 12:00 today, followed by book launches in the city library auditorium from 14:00 to 16:00. From 19:00 to 21:00 a ‘Writers in Conversation’ will follow at the same venue.
Afrikaans writer, Hans Pienaar, will interact with the public at Eloff Gallery in Jorissen Street from 14:00 to 16:00. All the events are open for the public.
On Friday, poetry performances called ‘Polokwane Burning’ will be presented in the city library auditorium from 19:30 to 22:00 and the public may also join.
