Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Paramount Chief of the Essikado Traditional Area in Ghana, is expected to deliver the keynote address at the 6th annual Onkgopotse Tiro Memorial Lecture to be hosted by the University of Limpopo (UL) on 14 September.
The theme of his lecture is indicated as ‘Daring the Future: Tiro and the Youth of Africa’ in a statement released by the UL.
Nketsia, President of Traditional Council and Chair of the Advisory Committee of Care International in Ghana has also chaired and been a participant on several boards, commissions, committees and conferences. He is a sportsman and a committed Pan-Africanist.
The memorial lecture is the UL’s flagship event that aims to commemorate the legacy of Tiro who, as a Black Consciousness Movement activist during his student days at the then University of the North, delivered a graduation speech that sharply criticised Bantu Education. He was expelled from the university and later, while in exile in Botswana, killed by a parcel bomb.
Some of the dignitaries expected at the event are scholars, captains of industry, government officials, university stakeholders, members of the community and the Tiro family.
