A group of women of the provincial African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) gathered in front of the Limpopo High Court yesterday (Wednesday) to oppose the judgement expected to be pronounced in double murder accused Rameez Patel’s appeal against the refusal of bail. The matter was however moved to today (Thursday).
The Polokwane Magistrate’s Court in February refused him bail in the case of the alleged killing of his mother Mahjebeen in September last year. It was learnt that Patel brought an urgent application before court on Monday appealing against the refusal of bail in the case.
Patel is also standing trial in the murder case of his wife Fatima. The case was postponed last week after his brother, Razeen a key witness in the case was shot four times outside the city a day before he was expected to testify against him.
The suspect in the shooting incident, Ali Salman handed himself over to Police and has already appeared in the Mankweng Regional Court on a charge of attempted murder. He is also expected to apply for bail today (Thursday).
The trial in the Fatima murder case will continue in September.
