Former Miss Limpopo Teen, Lesego Matheba was crowned Miss Baroka Football Club 2018 at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World on Saturday evening. The launch of the club’s new soccer kit coincided with the pageant.
Matheba, 19, a first year student in pharmacy at the University of Limpopo, beat 12 contestants from across the province to win the coveted title, her second in less than 24 months. “This is one of my biggest titles thus far and I am pleased to have won it. I won Miss Limpopo Teen in 2016 and I am still overwhelmed by both titles. To me this is proof that if you work hard you can achieve.
“I am looking forward to be part of the Baroka family and the brand. One of my roles as Miss Baroka will be marketing the Club and create more awareness about the brand. This is an organisation that is rooted in uplifting communities as well as uniting people all through the spirit of soccer. I am happy to be associated with a brand that focuses on uplifting communities,” Matheba said.
She said her biggest support comes from her parents. “My father, Abel is an educator and my mother, Pheladi a risk manager. Despite their hectic schedules they were able to take me to practice sessions ahead of the main event and they always attend my events. They are hungry for my dreams just like I am. They want it for me as much as I want it for myself. They have been with me throughout my modelling journey, which made it even more beautiful. God blessed me with the most amazing parents and I am forever thankful for them. The journey wasn’t an easy one but it was honestly beautiful for me and my family because there was a lot of growth in it for me,” Matheba said.
Asked how she is going to balance her studies and the reign Matheba responded by saying she would manage it with ease. “I have been in this situation before. When I was doing matric in Noorderland High School last year, I was still serving as Miss Limpopo Teen and I had events almost every weekend but at the end of the year I passed my matric with four distinctions. I love education and I love beauty pageants. I will be able to handle everything. My diary will become my favourite tool during my year of reign.”
Her message to aspiring models and those who wish to follow in her footsteps is that they must work hard, have self-confidence and be fearless. “The root to being fearless is strong self-awareness. Go after your dreams and give it your all. Nothing is impossible if you work hard. Put in all the hours and you will definitely reap what you sow, there is no manna from heaven. Work hard because only that can get you anything you want at any given time,” Matheba advised her peers.
