The SPCA Polokwane will have a Nelson Mandela Day outreach in Seshego on 18 July and is calling on all animal lovers to be a part of it by donating R67.
According to SPCA Polokwane Manager Selma Landman, her team will spend the day in Seshego doing general education on animal care and giving general veterinary treatment where required. The money donated towards this outreach will be utilised to do so.
She further said this outreach was inspired by Bailey, a tiny dog of mixed breed that was recently brought to the SPCA Polokwane by its owner who is from Seshego. “He also had another older dog with him. He told us that they were diseased and his friends advised him to stone the dogs to death but he couldn’t find it in his heart to do so, so he arranged a lift to our premises to bring them to us,” Landman explained. She said the SPCA Polokwane helped him treat his other dog and he signed Bailey over to them. She was completely withdrawn and unresponsive, eaten away by mange, internal parasites, malnutrition and secondary bacterial infections. She is making a slow albeit steady recovery.
“Bailey’s plight made us realise that there are many such pets in Seshego and that is how the idea of this outreach programme was born,” Landman said.
For more information or to make a donation contact the SPCA Polokwane during office hours on 015 291 1088.
