Learners of Laerskool Ivy Park through their social outreach programme donated canned and non-perishable foods to fellow learners from impoverished families on Friday. The food items were collected by the learners with the help of their parents.
The school’s acting Principal, Willem Opperman said the food items will make a huge difference to the recipients. “There are many learners from impoverished families in our school and we felt we wanted to reach out to them.”
The school also cooperated with the Polokwane Muslim Welfare Foundation and was able to hand over a brand new blanket to each of their general workers.
Opperman said this was a way of thanking the workers for their hard work and commitment towards the school. “These are the people who ensure that the school yard, garden and sport field are clean. They also prepare meals and tea for us and we just wanted to thank them.”
