The community of Mothibaskraal in Nobody engaged in action protest this morning (Monday) blocking the Nobody intersection with stones, tyres and branches demanding Polokwane Municipality’s attention.
Residents claim that the community has been struggling with water supply for over three years now and the municipality does not assist them in anyway. They further allege that they tried several times to set up a meeting with the municipality but their efforts were in vain. The person leading a group of protesters, Mphezulu Maphanga indicated that an elderly woman nearly got hit by a truck while pushing a water drum across the road yesterday (Sunday). He further said the incident prompted the community to engage in protest action to get the municipality’s attention.
Residents threaten to continue with protests until the municipality resolves water issues in the area. The protest was peaceful and vehicles are allowed pass and the Police are also on the scene monitoring the situation.
Communications and Marketing Manager of Polokwane Municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo confirmed earlier this morning (Monday) that the municipality is aware of the fact that the community has some issues with water provision in the area and has convened a meeting between the ward councillor and officials of the water section for today.
