Nationwide building material and associated products retailer, Cashbuild last Thursday handed over prizes to the value if R120 000 to the winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition in the Siyabuswa area.
The winning schools – Thembeka , Sithabile , Kabenziwa , Bekezela, Magodongo, Sibonelo and Mohlatseng primary schools were each presented with a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R15 000.
Lana Martens, public relations consultant for Cashbuild said the money will be used for general repairs at the schools. “These are the schools that did well in our competition and they deserve the prizes,” she said.
Martens said the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails that learners submit their best artwork to Cashbuild. “The Artwork was then judged and three winners named from each school. The winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager’s Choice award was judged and presented to a learner from Masuku Primary School who was also the overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day and the winner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy. The winner was also given the honour of officially opening the company’s refurbished store,” informed Martens.
The Art-at-Heart campaign was launched 17 years ago and since then Cashbuild has helped more than 2 900 schools in Southern Africa with over R36-million worth of building materials.
“Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members. The Art-at-Heart competition is a southern African Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the region’s most needy schools,” Martens stated.
Ruth Tshabangu, educator at Masuku Primary School was quoted to have said the money will help for general repairs at the School: “There are so many little things that are becoming big problems in and around our school and this voucher is going to help fix these problems and make our school look brand new.”
Sithabile Primary School principal, Pauline Mahlangu, was quoted to have said: “I am proud of the learners and this money has brought new hope to all of us. She added that a shelter to protect learners from the elements while outside will be built while repairs to be made to diapudated ceiings in classrooms were also on the cards.
