Police arrested a total of 397 suspects between the ages of 19 and 47 during the continuation of Operation Fiela II across the province last week.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that Operation Fiela II consists of regular roadblocks, stop and search operation, patrols and tracing of wanted suspects.
He added that during the recent operation suspects were arrested on charges ranging from murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and stolen properties, rape, business and house robberies, illegal hunting of endangered species, possession of dagga, contravening of the Migration Act to driving under the influence of alcohol.
During the operation nine vehicles, 38 cell phones, five firearms, 80 rounds of live ammunition, large amounts of dagga, cash and other suspected stolen property were recovered.
He highlighted that Police pulled a Ford Laser off the road outside Lebowakgomo but the vehicle stopped the driver and passenger fled. Police found three suspected stolen sheep on the back seat.
At Groblersbrug a suspicious truck was intercepted by Police. During the search of the vehicle Police found illicit creams hidden in a concealed compartment in the floor of the truck which was transporting beans from Zambia. Two suspects were arrested.
Police also arrested a suspect who is possibly linked to at least eight armed robberies and business robberies in the Thohoyandou area.
Ngoepe said all suspects will appear in various magistrate’s courts across the province.
