The recent annual Treverton Sports Festival hosted by Treverton College in Mooi River, KwaZulu-Natal was an absolute triumph for the first netball team of Stanford Lake College (SLC).
Eight teams competed in the tournament that was dominated by SLC from the onset. Day 1 saw them beating Treverton College A 37-1; Dainfern College 41-5 and Treverton College B 40-0.
The second day was intense and challenging but, according to SLC marketer Rona McGaffin, the team had gone into the tournament with the right mind-set and played as a tight knit team. They won their matches with huge margins namely 22-3 against Thomas More College, 29-0 against the Development team and 34-1 against Pecanwood College before taking on Hillcrest Curro and outplaying them 21-15 in a reportedly mentally and emotionally exhausting game.
On day three they were up against Treverton A whom they overcame 31-6; Hillcrest Curro whom they beat 29-7 and finally Dainfern that went down 31-1.
On the final day of the tournament it was only Treverton B that could come between them and complete victory, a test they took on with courage and style to attain a 31- 4 victory.
