The Congress of the People (Cope) acting provincial chairperson Makgwana Rampedi was officially sworn-in as a member of the Legislature during a ceremony at Parliamentary Village last Wednesday.
Rampedi, regarded as the provincial leader of party, is replacing Patrick Sekhutshi who was allegedly expelled and later resigned from his duties as the provincial leader. Rampedi, accompanied by his wife Mapula, daughters Galetume and Thoriso and party members took the oath as directed by the Speaker of the Legislature, Polly Boshielo.
After the official ceremony, Rampedi told Polokwane Observer that he was committed to use his experience and voice to help shape the country and added that being a member of the Legislature was an honour.

Cope acting Provincial Chairperson, Makgwana Rampedi was sworn-in as the member of the Legislature. With him is the speaker of the Legislature Polly Boshielo.

“I achieved a lot of things in my life time but I never thought I would one day be called ‘honourable’ in the house. The party appointed me because of the trust they have in me and I am ready to serve and perform my duties to the best of my ability,” he stated.
He further said he was looking forward to working with other members of the house and thanked Boshielo for a smooth session which highlighted a number of vital things such as the Legislature’s mandate, his monthly salary and him getting keys to a new house at Parliamentary Village among others.
Boshielo indicated that there were a lot of things happening at the Legislature and warned Rampedi that he should expect countless meetings and sittings.
She further stated that she was confident that Rampedi would serve with dignity and reiterated that her door was always open for discussions and suggestions.
“The house is made up of members from the ruling party and opposition but we are not at the Legislature to fight constantly but to ensure that the people of Limpopo get sufficient services,” she stressed and concluded by congratulating Rampedi on his appointment and officially welcoming him to the Legislature.
