Mitchell House opens new nutrition centre

An informal cocktail and unveiling of a plaque marked the official opening of a new nutrition centre at Mitchell House on Monday evening.
The refectory, a name associated with the dining hall of a school, will serve three meals per day. Breakfast and lunch will be served to hostel boarders and for lunch up to 450 staff members and learners can be treated to a nourishing meal, which also caters for vegetarians.
Head girl Tebatso Madisha opened the proceedings with a reading from Psalm 23 and head boy Dauda Sheni rendered the opening as well as closing prayers.
Headmaster Andrew Cook welcomed members of the Board of Governors and other invited guests which included the contractor and professional team and said that the opening of the facility is a milestone in the history of Mitchell House. He took guidance from the scripture reading and said that however physical nourishment is important, spiritual nourishment is far more important. “It is my prayer that all who eat and serve you here will always do so in a spirit of reverence and gratitude for what God has done for us,” Cook said.
Cook thanked the contractor, BDS Construction and its team and architect Paul Carter for their hard work and congratulated them on the excellent outcome. “I am overwhelmed by the beauty and spaciousness of the building,” Cook said. He also stated that the final cost of the project is not available as yet.
A plaque at the entrance to the facility was unveiled by Emwee Zeelie, a former Bursar of Mitchell House who, according to Cook, masterminded the project and had a huge involvement in the designing thereof.
