With more rain expected over parts of the province Police have issued a warning for residents of Limpopo to be careful when visiting dams and rivers on the weekend.
This after the bodies of a 10-year-old boy and 50-year-old man were recovered from dams during two separate incidents earlier this week.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that the Police Search and Rescue Unit was called to a dam in Lulekani outside Phalaborwa after Junior Kamogele Shikwambana drowned while playing with his friends on Wednesday. The incident was reported to the Police who reacted swiftly to remove the body from the water, according to Ngoepe.
Meanwhile, the body of William Mavhele was found floating in the Majemani Dam at Mashau Magweni Village outside Thohoyandou the same day. The Search and Rescue Unit was summoned to the scene to remove the already decomposed body from the dam.
Ngoepe once again appealed to community members to be extra cautious when crossing and swimming in dams, streams and rivers. Parents are strongly advised to keep a close eye on children at all times to prevent similar incidents from occurring, Ngoepe said.
