The Polokwane Night Trail Run Series, and initiative by local residents hosted every last Wednesday of the month, saw over a 100 participants armed with headlamps taking on their third event at Polokwane Golf Club last Wednesday evening.
The trail run offers enthusiasts a 5 km or
10 km in and around the scenic golf course. Participants can walk or run and needs a headlamp as the event only starts a 19:00.
The event was initiated by local sport enthusiasts Graham Chrystal, Gerrit Pieterse, Barend Gouws and Ben Schempers in November last year.
“We hoped to create a new safe and secure event for athletes and individuals to keep them healthy during the week. Night trail running makes it a lot cooler and creates better personal times and makes the athletes lose the sense of city life and enjoy nature,” Chrystal said about why they decided to establish the event.
The Polokwane Night Trail Run is held every last Wednesday of the month and interested parties can register on www.timeme.co.za. Entry fee per race is R70.
“Just over 30 runners joined the first event in November and we recorded 115 entries for the recent run. Electronic time keeping is also done and the event is registered with Discovery Vitality and points are allocated to participants,” Chrystal said.
Beverages are also available after the event. All ages are welcome to enter and no licenses are required. For more information contact Chrystal on 072 414 6840.
