Polokwane Municipality has issued an urgent warning to alert the public about a scam relating to providing employment and tenders for reward that is currently doing the rounds in the city.
Disree Manyane, Stakeholder Relations Officer of the municipality, says in a media release that a woman, who is known to the municipality, poses as Executive Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng and requests job seekers and prospective service providers in an SMS to deposit money in an account in order to secure jobs or tenders.
Manyane says that the matter was brought to the attention of the municipality by members of the public and confirmed that a case was opened with the Police. “The public is urged to be vigilant and report such cases to the South African Police,” Manyane says and adds that the municipality is not selling jobs or tenders. “Jobs and tenders are advertised in local newspapers and on the municipal website,” Manyane concludes.
