Makro Polokwane hosted an intimate get together for principals and teachers of local schools to explain the benefits of the m-STUDENT programme and to encourage the schools to make use of this wonderful opportunity to generate an extra income for their schools.
Elliot Zvanyange, Admin Manager at Makro Polokwane, explained that schools had to spend at least R3 000 per month on school supplies at Makro to qualify for the programme. Thereafter parents can link their Makro cards to the school and the school will receive a percentage of the gross profit that Makro makes from the sale. Liquor sales are, however, excluded from this offer.
Schools receive their rebates every six months and have the opportunity to choose between a cash pay-out or using the money to buy supplies and equipment for the school.
Marketing Manager, Mamorwadi Mokaba, explained that these rebates were funds that the schools did not plan on and could come in handy to tackle projects that there have never been money for. She played video clips with testimonies from Andrew Cook, Headmaster of Mitchell House, and learners from Pietersburg Laerskool, Laerskool Piet Hugo and Laerskool Pietersburg-Oos in which they explained how they were able to use the rebates to improve the schools, help out needy learners and their families, and pay for much needed repair work.
Mokaba also invited schools to submit proposals for sponsorship to Makro Polokwane as the store is very active in the community and wants to make a difference in education specifically. “We ask that proposals be sent to us at least one month in advance. If the values of the proposal are in line with Makro’s values, a panel will allocate some funds or other help to the project. We are especially interested in working with Early Childhood Development (ECD) programmes and centres,” she said.
Zvanyange introduced Makro Polokwane’s two Schools Customer Relations Officers, Nobuhhle Mayekisa and Johanette Soer to the guests and invited them to engage with these officers after the presentation.
