Rameez Patel’s bail application to continue today

The bail application of Rameez Patel who stands accused of the alleged killing of his mother, Mahjebeen on 19 September is expected to continue in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday). Patel is also standing trial for the murder of his wife, Fatima, in April 2015.
Magistrate Janine Ungerer postponed the matter yesterday (Wednesday) in order for defence attorney Tumi Mokwena to work through recordings of a telephone conversation between Patel’s girlfriend, Nesreen Mayet and her ex-husband, Abdul Nazim. Parts of the recordings were played in court by State Prosecutor Mashudu Mudau. In the recording Mayet spoke to her then husband complaining that Patel was beating up his children, assaulting her and planning to kill his mother. Mayet claimed that Nazim had allegedly forced her to make the call.
Mayet was warned to be back in court today to continue testifying.
