Police are investigating the deaths of Thabang Tladi and Kate Ramoshaba, both 19, who drowned after allegedly driving into the Chuenespoort Dam on Sunday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that an inquest into the couple’s death has been registered. It is reported that the couple had been sitting in a Toyota Tazz that was parked next to the dam. According to Ngoepe a fisherman in a boat summoned the Police after noticing the vehicle suddenly speeding into to the water.
The Police’s Search and Rescue Unit swiftly managed to recover the bodies but while attempting to recover the vehicle the cable snapped sending it deeper into the water. The mission was abandoned until today (Tuesday).
Tladi and Ramoshaba are from Lebowakgomo and were enrolled at the Repeat Part Time Centre at Seleteng village in Ga-Mphahlele.
Ngoepe said the motive behind the incident is still being investigated.
