Four medical students from Musina were recently surprised with brand new laptops on the eve of their departure for Havana, Cuba where they are participating in the Department of Health Cuban Scholarship programme.
Representing the donor, De Beers Venetia Mine, Corporate Affairs Manager Josephine Pieters reportedly said Reason Kgopana, 25, Samuel Thulani, 20, Fortune Maluleke, 25, and Amos Malunga, 21, each received a laptop, wireless mouse, 1 year anti-virus licence as well as a laptop bag to facilitate their academic success abroad.
The four students are at varying stages of their studies. Thulani is a third year student who has always loved medicine and chose the field to bring relief to those who suffer the most. He was quoted to have said: “The laptops will simplify our method of studying, make access to information easy and bring much improvement in our lives.”
Pieters, who met with the students to motivate and encourage them to focus on their studies, said they were proud that these passionate young medical students come from the mining community of Musina and wished them success in their studies. She added that she looked forward to the quality healthcare that they will one day provide to the community.
