A number of local businesses started their week on a high note when they were awarded for their excellence in service during the annual PMR.africa Awards ceremony hosted at Sun Meropa on Monday.
The awards ceremony not only provides an opportunity to network with other role players in the business fraternity of Limpopo it also creates an opportunity and platform where PMR.africa’s coveted Diamond, Gold, Silver and Bronze awards can be handed over to companies, institutions and individuals that have excelled during 2016.
PMR.africa is a division of CJ Hattingh & Sons, a consultancy and research company based in South Africa. Chief Executive Office Johan Hattingh informed guests that
PMR.africa wants to acknowledge the contributions and initiatives, strategies, effort and hard work of businesses in the province.
He added that the purpose of the awards is to enhance competitiveness, to create a unique marketing and sales tool, to set a benchmark in industries and to acknowledge staff.
“There is a successful team behind each successful and highly rated company, department or individual. Respect yourself, respect everybody you deal with and everything will be okay,” Hattingh said.
The awards are based on a survey done and the criteria entailed companies/institutions that have done most to enhance economic growth and development of the province; levels of managerial expertise; implementation of corporate governance; brand awareness and levels of innovation.
Hattingh added that the PMR Award can be used by businesses to target a specific audience, submitted during a tender process, added to annual reports or brochures and marketing material, to set a benchmark and to generate general awareness.
The keynote speaker, acting Director at Turfloop Graduate School of Leadership, University of Limpopo, Mankolo Lethoko emphasised the importance for businesses to touch lives of individuals every year during their business process. “If you do not win today, double your efforts for next year. Excellence is doing the ordinary thing extraordinary well,” she said.
She touched on the subject of gratitude saying that management or business owners should take the time to thank their employees and to even reward them. Create a culture of gratitude. Hand them a small certificate of appreciation or get involved in their personal lives to understand what they really need. Offer to pay school fees or to buy their children’s books or school shoes. Know what your people need. Gratitude is a virtue of the highest excellence, Lethoko said.
She also motivated business personalities present to put effort in their Corporate Social Responsibility by either adopting a school or orphanage or by sponsoring a local sport team. On excellence she said that a definition thereof entails the quality of being outstanding or extremely good.
