Ocean Basket Mall of the North was transformed into a fierce battle ground where several property agents from Polokwane competed against each other to see which agency would emerge victorious.
The Clash of the Agents competition was organised by Gerhard Franken, General Manager of Ocean Basket Mall of the North, and Zane Keyter, Property Agent at RE/MAX Northland Realthy.
The main prize was a quarter page advertisement in Polokwane Observer and a beautiful floating trophy sponsored by RE/MAX Northland Realty. The second prize was an night for two at the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel, a meal for two at Ocean Basket and two vehicle branding magnets from Karma Signs, while the third prize comprised a meal for two at Ocean Basket and 100 branded licence disks.
Since the goal of the evening was to raise money for Ngwana Baby House, participating teams paid a fee to compete and all prizes were sponsored. Judges representing each sponsor kept a strict look-out for cheaters.
Amanda Koekemoer, Project Manager at Ngwana House gave a brief overview of the non-profit organisation’s activities. The house is a registered place of safety that takes care of abandoned babies from birth up to two-years-old.
During this time social workers work very hard to facilitate the babies’ adoptions. Koekemoer thanked all present for their willingness to raise funds for this great cause.
The battle ground consisted of the the following activities:
Most bones
Teams started the evening with a delicious meal of snoek and sweet potato with home made bread. Teams had to count the number of fish bones on their plates after they were finished eating and received points.
Looking good
Each team had to dress up for the evening and were judged on brand awareness, originality, team spirit and cohesion. While some teams only donned their corporate logo, others took the challenge to heart and showed up in full costume and make-up.
Question time
Organisers of the competition gave contestants ten head scratchers to answer. The questions were phrased in such a way that only pure logic could provide the answer. This part of the competition boosted the charity fund as teams were allowed to pay Ocean Basket waiters R10 per answer. The bribes were added to the total amount donated to Ngwana Baby House.
Sushi challenge
Participants had to make six cucumber maki pieces from scratch with no help from Ocean Basket personnel and no training given. This led to a lot of flying food and frustrated cries and in the end some of the teams decided to pay a R100 “fine” to receive some help. This money was also added to the total funds raised.
A sticky situation
Teams were asked to use only two sushi sticks to transfer as many Smarties as possible from one bowl to another. It did not take the intrepid agents long to find a way to use the sticks to upend one bowl into another and all teams received full marks for this challenge.
Sticker time
Teams had to paste a large sticker onto a board without causing any bubbles to form under the surface. Their efforts were timed and points allocated accordingly.
Grammar madness
Polokwane Observer provided a fun article about Donald Trump taking over the property market in Polokwane with ten spelling mistakes that the participants had to correct. This challenge proved to be too much for most teams and they contributed R100 each to the Ngwana Baby House fund for the answers.
Creative canvas
Each member of each team had to write one inspirational quote on a blank canvas, which was bought by Property for All for R800.
Vocal yokels
In a karaoke competition like no-one has ever seen, the agents gave it their all behind the microphone. Some stuck to the lyrics on screen while others made up their own lyrics extolling the virtues of their agencies. There were even two rappers who whipped the audience into a frenzy.
Mascot parade
Each team was asked to bring a mascot with them. The stuffed toy had to have a back story explaining why it is a good representative of that specific agency. RealNet’s Ellie the Elephant was named best mascot and all mascots were donated to Ngwana Baby House.
The best dressed team was that of Davel De Klerk Attorneys Incorporated (DDKK) who showed up in powdered wigs and legal robes.
Noordelike Eiendomme won first prize and RE/MAX Northland Realty came in second, while Chas Everitt ended in third place. Franken and Keyter handed over R7 200 and a shopping trolley filled with stuffed toys to Koekemoer on Monday afternoon.
