Motor sport enthusiasts gathered at the Polokwane Show Grounds on Saturday to witness the first annual Polokwane Wheels Show that was held by the Polokwane Oval Raceway, Limpopo 4×4 Club, Capricorn Racing Club and Bosveld Auto Club.
According to one of the organisers, Johnny Durant the show aimed at raising funds for the National Racing Championships that will be held at the Polokwane Show Grounds on 9 September. He said the money raised will support all the drivers in any way possible to make the championships a success. He further said they expect more than 100 drivers from all provinces to compete in different categories such as the 2,1 class and 1 600 class among others and added that it promises to be an eventful day. A variety of cars were on display at the exhibition area and Durant outlined that they had 35 classic cars, 25 4×4 bakkies, 38 racing cars and 12 drag racing cars on display.
He added that they had two interesting demonstrations, a 4×4 traction show and a mobile dynamo where visitors tested their vehicles’ power.
“People did support our initiative and I am happy with the attendance even though we wished to attract a lot more. Next year we will have a number of racing sessions to entertain the crowd and we hope this will also help us get more people to the show,” he explained.
