The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has called on society and men in particular to unite in a public stance in support of women against heartless killers and the acts they execute.
It follows an incident in Xikundu Village in the Vhembe District on Wednesday during which unknown gunmen allegedly broke into a house, opened fire and killed a 19-year-old pregnant schoolgirl.
They further called upon law enforcement agencies to act speedily in arresting and bringing to justice the killers.
The ANC in Limpopo condemned the behaviour and called on all members of society to unite against these killings, said ANC Provincial Secretary Nocks Seabi in a media statement that has just been released.
“Our country has been besieged by a monstrous wave of killings of women and children, and our province has also had a high rate.
“In fighting for the liberation of all South Africans, President Nelson Mandela had a special emphasis on the protection of women and children. It’s even worse that Beanice Malebane is killed when we are in a month of celebrating the legacy of Nelson Mandela.
“Let us all utilise the coming month of August, which is a dedicated women’s month to intensify our efforts to fight the scourge of women and children abuse. Let us build a caring society which protects women and children.”
The ANC in the province wished her family a speedy recovery from shock and pain.
