For the fifth consecutive year De Beers Venetia Mine has paid for deserving learners from 11 schools to attend the annual Gordon Institute of Business Science Career Expo in Johannesburg on Saturday.
The 33 learners and teachers were all from Alldays High School, Eric Louw High School, Mabotha
Secondary School, Mahadikana Secondary School, Masoka Secondary School, Mathipa
Makgato Secondary School, Mopane Intermediate School, Musina High School, Nakedi
Secondary School, Renaissance High School and Thokampe Secondary School. These schools are all in Venetia Mine’s in the labour sending areas of Musina and Blouberg, a media release informed.
The field trip to the career expo is an initiative to introduce accomplished and achieving grade 11 and 12 learners as well as their career guidance teachers to the wide variety of possible careers, bursaries and opportunities offered by exhibiting companies.
They also get the chance to hear more about studies, courses and opportunities that different universities have on offer.
“You have been presented with a once in a life time opportunity and an experience that will change your lives for the better, please use it meaningfully. Making the right choice early in your life is very important and Venetia Mine has taken a decision to invest in you and present you with this opportunity. Use it, make a difference and change your life,” De Beers Venetia Mine General Manager, Benford Mokoatle said, encouraging the learners to move out of their comfort zones.
