After two self-published albums that failed to launch her career, Lungi Naidoo finally snagged a deal with Universal Music and will launch this album, Black Diamond, at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World’s Jembe Tavern tomorrow (Friday).
She has worked with some of the biggest names in the business on this 10-track dance album with Black Coffee producing two tracks, ‘Falling’ and ‘Away With Me’.
She also attracts a lot of attention with ‘Uzobuya’, produced by Bobstar,
‘Falling’ is destined to be a dance hit with its full sound led by a prominent bass. The energetic track is peppered with tribal beats and a relentless arrangement that builds up to an exhilarating climax.
On the playful ‘Kiss Madolo’, Lungi goes back to the sound from her home, KwaZulu-Natal. This is set to be a sing-along crowd favourite as she teases the knock-kneed.
The up-tempo ‘Qhela’ is a club banger that bursts with infectious dance beats paired with the most tender, gentlest and soothing, if not whisperey vocals.
The talented singer dabbles in the Pan-African sound with the West-African-kissed ‘Uzobuya’. She shows her vocal versatility her as she delves deeper against a backdrop of lively dance beats. On a sober, albeit not preachy mode, Lungi sends a strong warning against tribalism with ‘Niqaphele’ and pleads for all to love each other and pursue peace.
“What a coup to have this fast rising star introducing her brand new album to local fans at Meropa. In addition to a live introduction to hits from the album, fans will also be treated to performances by Big Surprise, DJ Veneigrette and Footsounds. It promises to be a spectacular evening of first class entertainment,” says Meropa’s Public Relations & Promotions Manager, Raksha Gunpath.
Entrance is R80 per person before 20:00 and R100 per person after that. The entertainment line-up kicks off at 18:00.
