With more than 270 applications for transfers of property being lodged within the first week of operation, the first deed of transfer in the province was executed at the Limpopo Deeds Registry on Friday.
This follows the official opening of the facility in the city by Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Mcebisi Skwatsha last Wednesday.
Wilna Enslin, conveyancer of Henstock Van der Heever Attorneys, was the first conveyancer to appear before Limpopo Registrar of Deeds William Ngququ to present transfer documents for execution.
Ngququ said to Polokwane Observer that the main objective behind the establishment of the Limpopo Deeds Registry is to increase accessibility of deeds services to citizens in the province and explained that the office will be responsible for the registration of real rights in land, maintenance of a public land register, provision of registration information and maintenance of a archive of registration records.
“The office will be able to accommodate the lodging of between 80 and 120 deeds daily with a staff component of 25 officials. “This will ensure a turnaround time of seven days from lodgement to registration,” Ngququ stated.
Documents may be lodged between 08:00 and 10:00 and execution of deeds will take place between 10:00 and 11:00 on weekdays. The delivery and information sections will be open from 08:00 to 15:00 and the prep room will be open from 08:00 to 11:30 on weekdays.
Ngququ said that he is very happy with the smooth implementation of the facility. “I have received many compliments from the public and they commented positively on the professionalism of the staff. We have transferred staff from other centres that are well experienced and they form the core of our operations. Their roots are all in Limpopo and we are delighted to see them back home. About 40% of the staff members are locals that are in training,” Ngququ said.
Local conveyancer Jan Kampherbeek was one of the first to lodge applications and commented that the assistance from officials was friendly and competent. “This service will result in cost savings for clients and is applauded,” Kampherbeek said.
