Lost child back with mom

POLOKWANE – The toddler thought to be two- or three years old who was found in Diemeer Street by Edwell (Eduan Park and Welgelegen community policing forum) on Wednesday October 8, has been reunited with his mother.

The boy was found in Diemeer Street sleeping on the pavement. Edwell members took him to hospital where he was treated for exposure to the elements.

On October 9, the boy was taken in by Santie Oberholzer at Ngwana Baby House.

According to Oberholzer, the mother of the boy was already looking for her child, and was referred to Ngwana Baby House to be reunited with her son.

Oberholzer said the mother said she had fallen ill in a taxi near Nobody and was taken to the Rethabile Clinic in Polokwane for treatment.

It was while she was there that she became separated from her son, who seemingly wandered down the street looking for her. The mother said when she was finished at the clinic, she started looking for her son, Oberholzer said.

“After speaking to the mo-ther, we were satisfied that she did not mean to harm or neglect the boy and she was allowed to take her son home,” she said.

Oberholzer said three of the mother’s brothers promised to take care of the mother and her child. “The mother and child received a donation of food and clothes from Ngwana Baby House and are doing very well,” Oberholzer concluded.
