A 20-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court this morning (Monday) following his arrest during an intelligent led investigation into what Police believe to be a vehicle theft syndicate.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said the investigation was driven by the Provincial Tracking Team which led them to a smallholding on Ivy Dale. “Police followed a suspected stolen vehicle to the smallholding and when they entered the premises a Toyota Yaris, Nissan Sentra, Mazda 3 and Ford Courier bakkie were found. Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicles were registered in Botswana and their chassis numbers were grinded off,” Ngoepe said.
He added that Police also found various vehicle registration documents from Botswana and Zimbabwe as well as Botswana vehicle licence discs.
The suspect will face charges of possession of suspected stolen vehicles. Investigations will determine the origins of the vehicles, according to Ngoepe.
