Mammogram machine to be working by end Dec

The mammogram machine at the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital will be working by the end of December

POLOKWANE – The mammogram machine at the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital will be working by the end of December, the department of health confirmed on Tuesday.

Patients who are scheduled for a mammogram scan at the hospital are being referred to a private institution in the city at the department’s cost until the mammogram machine at the hospital is replaced.

Dr Darias Tsatsi from Mammo Clinic in the city confirmed that the department referred some of the patients to his practice for mammogram scans, however he did not want to give much comment on the matter.

Macks Lesufi, department spokesperson, said the department had been in partnership with the private institution for over a year and had referred over 15 patients for mammogram scans at the institution due to the machine not working at the hospital.

“The mammogram machine at the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital will be working by end of December. A service provider has been appointed and is now on site working on the installation of the new mammogram machine,” Lesufi said.

A mammogram scan costs R1 050 per patient at Mammo Clinic, but Lesufi could not confirm how much the department paid per patient.

“The department receives an invoice from the institution and that is how payment is done.”
