The Polokwane High Court on Friday handed down a hefty sentence to three men who terrorised Polokwane and Seshego.
Emanuel Dube, Derick Shumba and Jeoffrey Mbedzi were found guilty on charges of murder, robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba said Dube from Makgofe was found guilty of shooting and killing a ward councillor from Molemole along the Rheinland and Kanana villages road after giving him and Mbedzi a lift in July 2013. “In July 2013 Dube also shot and killed a man in his vehicle at the Seshego Industrial Park and robbed him of his belongings including a cell phone. He was sentenced to life imprisonment plus an additional 15 years on two charges of murder, two of attempted robbery, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and attempted murder.”
Shumba was sentenced to 22 years after being found guilty on charges of attempted murder, attempted robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. “His arrest followed an attempted robbery at Ga-Legodi, Moletji in 2013. He will serve eight years effectively as some of the charges will run concurrently,” Ledwaba said.
Mbedzi who was with Dube during the killing of the councillor in July 2013 will serve life imprisonment after being found guilty on charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
