Two convicted serial rapists were recently sentenced to a combined 570 years for rape and attempted rape.
The Dennilton Regional Court sentenced Mabaso Milo (26) to life imprisonment for rape plus another ten years for rape and another ten years for attempted rape last Thursday. Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said Mabaso targeted female hitchhikers by giving them a ride. “He would then drive to nearby bushes where he raped them,” Ngoepe said.
In the Polokwane High Court, Jonas Kgobo Moshabi was sentenced to 22 life terms for rape on Monday. Moshabi terrorised women in Moletjie between 2005 and 2012. He raped 32 women, mostly elederly, during this time,” Ngoepe said, adding that his modus operandi was to overpower his victims while they were working in the fields or collecting wood.
Ngoepe said Moshabi has also broken into ten of his victims’ houses and had an unlicensed firearm in his possession which he used to threaten women. He also robbed his victims of their personal belongings and a woman was shot and killed in her home during one of the incidents. Moshabi was arrested in 2013 and kept in custody since. Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba congratulated the investigation team of the Family Violence and Child Protection Services for the sterling work they have done in putting Moshabi behind bars.
