Polokwane Police this morning embarked on an operation to apprehend numerous so-called bogus doctors behind illegally displayed advertisements for penis enlargement and abortion put up across the city.
At least two Kenyan and two supposedly Ugandan citizens were apprehended in a building in Market Street and a set of flats in Compensatie Street respectively.
Police closed-in early morning on the building in Market Street where a man was cornered and questioned. Several boxes containing penis enlargement and abortion advertisements were also confiscated. A second man who allegedly walked in unsuspecting of the Police’s presence was also brought in for questioning. Police also gained entry to a dark room where several items reportedly used during ritual and or medical procedures were discovered.
Following the questioning of the two men new information lead the Police to a set of flats in Compensatie Street where two more suspects were apprehended. The four suspects were taken to the Polokwane Police Station for further questioning. One of the suspects alleged that at least 15 suspects were involved in the illegal activities performed by bogus doctors.
Polokwane Police Spokesperson Ntobeng Phala said on the scene that the were hoping to rid the city’s streets of the bogus doctors for good. “We will continue to close in on these perpetrators and will leave no stone unturned to get to the kingpin,” he said.
