Hoërskool Pietersburg (PHS) once again performed well during the final matric exams with a 100% pass rate and a total of 261 distinctions achieved.
After maintaining the top position in Grade 12 throughout the year Chané Prinsloo managed to top score in the final examination in the school with distinctions in Afrikaans (89%), English (88%), Mathematics (98%), Life Sciences (93%), Economics (95%), Information Technology (89%), Natural Sciences (91%), Advanced Programme Mathematics (82%) and an average of 91,6%.
“It was a tough exam because I knew my results will reflect all the hard work throughout my school career. Some papers had me down in the dumps and made it difficult to concentrate for the next papers, but I survived,” Chané said. She said she would not have been able to do it without the grace of God and support from her parents. “Big gratitude towards every teacher that stood before me only giving their best to educate me well,” she added.
While still on holiday in Mossel Bay she is already preparing to join the University of Pretoria where she will be studying electronic engineering. “I cannot wait to start my studies and look forward to new challenges.”
Marike Bierman, Chané Burger, Ferdi Coetzer, Anret Davel, Grizelda Neethling, Sherize Vercueil, Maricelle Weideman and Monique Wreyford each achieved seven A-symbols while Jonelle Gertenbach, Michelle Schoeman and Martie van Niekerk each got six distinctions.
A further seven learners achieved five, nine learners four and 12 learners three distinctions while 15 and 42 learner attained two and one distinctions respectively.
PHS maintained an average of 63,9% on all subjects with the highest markings scored in Life Sciences.
One hundred and fifty nine learners passed with university exemption to study for a degree while 64 learners can enrol for a diploma.
