news13Police arrested three more suspects in connection with the robbery of a jewellery store and killing of security guard, David Makgoba in Savannah Mall late yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.
Two of the suspects were arrested in Seshego while the third one was apprehended in Fauna Park. All three are still being questioned by Police.
In the meantime Thabang Moloto and Daniel Chipape from Seshego, arrested just outside Savannah Mall’s premises shortly after the incident on Wednesday, appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today (Friday).
Polokwane Police Head of Communication Ntobeng Phala said the duo will remain in custody until their next appearance. “I cannot provide the next appearance date as yet and the information will only be communicated later. It is expected that the other three will appear before court next week,” Phala said.
At least ten suspects are suspected to have been involved in the robbery and the killing of Makgoba.
“The suspects entered the mall from different entrances and mingled with other shoppers when they suddenly made a move to the jewellery store. After collecting several bags of jewellery they also terrorised a client making her way to the door after noticing what was happening. Makgoba, on his lunch break at the time, rushed to the client’s aid but was shot in the chest during a struggle which ensued,” Savannah Mall Marketing Manager Karen Botha said yesterday.
As the suspects fled the mall another shot was fired through the window of an empty store.
Meanwhile Mall Management placed a photo of Makgoba near the spot in the mall where he died. Tenants and individuals also place flowers in mourning next to his photo.
